Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan…

But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words… And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Review

It’s just the first chapter but it already piqued my curiosity because the characters here were twins! And they’re identical!

When I was starting the story, I didn’t know what exactly I felt, because normally when I read a story I easily get bored if the author doesn’t give me what I want early on. But in this story, I don’t know. I don’t exactly know at all. All I know is that it was properly well- written and to my surprise I didn’t yawn even once while reading it. There’s just something about this book that will make you focus and feel content.

I also love how the author used very easy to grasp words in this story, and the scenes and ofcourse the plot were refreshing to me. Not too much romance, not cliché, and will not make your heart beat faster because of the suspense, but will make you enjoy the story based solely on how simple it is written.

It was also refreshing because it made me feel like I am on a vacation for feeling any hatred towards its antagonist because obviously, there’s nothing in here, though I was a bit annoyed at a jerk whose name we’ll hide as Nick (haha, I could get so mean). But it was just a petty hatred because all those negative vibes that this Nick guy exudes was suddenly erased by Levi.

For its characters, I don’t really have any complaints at all. They are all relatable and so easy to picture out. There’s not too much of them here and the names are familiar too, although I think the twins’ names are quite clever (Cather and Wren, cute eh?).

Of all the kind words I’ve said above, I should have given it a 5-star rating eh? But it’s my first time from the author, so I think I’ll leave the remaining 1 star for any improvements.

Read this story and unleash the fangirl in you.

I know lots of people like this book, but I never quite knew where it was about either, except for the main characters being a fangirl. I also like reading about twins or siblings, the dynamic between them is interesting. I just finished a novella about identical quadruplets.
This book sounds well written and realistic, which is always a good thing in my opinion. Seems like it tackles quite a lot of topics as well. Great review!

I’m glad you enjoyed this Kristin, as I have it on my kindle, myself. I have kind of put it off, because the fan-thing that is a little too much maybe? It sounds like it was a solid story, though 🙂 Great review!
