How to claim your parcel at Cebu Central Post Office

I know a lot of you are purchasing some merchandise online. Who wouldn’t right? No hassle, so easy, you can shop in your own time, and ofcourse, no need to endure a long line to the counter. It’s much easy especially if the seller is from your country. But what will you do if it’s from outside the country?

If you purchased merchandise online from another country, you are required to pay for a shipping fee. But if you’re shopping for some online clothing, like from Lookbook Store then, you would need not to worry for any shipping fee for they are offering FREE shipping worldwide. But just because you pay a shipping fee, it doesn’t mean that you will not pay anything anymore. Once the parcel arrives in your country, you are entitled to pay the tax for it.

Normally, the people from the post office will send you a note about your package. But if your address is too vague, they normally send you a text message (if you include your phone number in your package) with a control number that you will present once you claim your package.  (You could also present your tracking number to the officer)

Cebu central post office is open from Monday to Friday at 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Most custom office have lunch break which is at 12:00 PM to 1 PM.

As far as I know, all parcels are subjected to one hundred and twelve pesos (PHP 112) postal fee. (Updated September 2015)

To get your parcel, you need to:

  1. Let’s assume that you didn’t receive any notice or text message, so the first thing you need to do is to ask if your package has arrived at the Assistance Desk. You just need to present your tracking number, so be sure you have it. But if you received a text message or a note from the post office, then you’ll be redirected to number 2.
  2. Make sure to have one photocopy of one of your valid or government IDs. (make sure to have your ID with you if some instance they’ll want to check it) Most requires two ID’s but so far, they only required one in the Cebu Central Post Office.
  3. Proceed to window 30 and fall in line. Then present your tracking number or control number to the post officer.
  4. You need to pay a postal fee of PHP 112 to the officer, sign all the documents needed to sign and viola! You now have your parcel.

So far, for all my transactions at the post office (which was addressed to my mom), all of my expenses was fixed to PHP 112. I’ve received books from amazon, which they normally print out the prices of the books you’ve purchased in front of the package/box including the shipping fee (that is for the standard shipping, which normally arrives after two months). I’ve purchased some dresses and skirts online from Lookbook Store, but in all fairness, they didn’t print out the price of the items in the parcel. And the postal fee is still PHP112.
