I am telling you in advance, “this is a spoiler alert” so if you haven’t read the story, then beware. It is a total bummer! This is a tagalog tragic romance book that tells a story of an everlasting love between the two characters of the story. I heard the story long time ago but it is just now that I decided to read it. Well, I only got the idea on reading the story after seeing the teaser of the film which is a movie adaptation of the book.

Sypnosis
It all started when 17-year-old Athena Dizon unwittingly plays a trick on resident heartthrob and bad boy, Kenji de los Reyes. All of a sudden, she finds herself pretending—unwillingly at that—to be his girlfriend to make his ex jealous.

Now, not only does she have to deal with dirty looks from the girls in school who want Kenji for themselves, but her supposed boyfriend is getting on her nerves. He’s hotheaded, never seems to agree with her on anything—and everything about him screams gangster.

Has Athena gotten herself into more trouble than she can handle? Or has she actually found herself a boy she can call hers—gangster be damned?

Reaction (book)

Before reading the story, I already know that Kenjie will die. Well, I hate tragic stories, but I still got curious so I decided to give it a try before watching the film adaptation of the book so I could compare the two.

On the first chapter, you’ll notice some errors, like how the author used the word “pati” a dozen of times. I admit, I am patient on reading English books, but it’s different in Tagalog. Even how interesting the plot is, if the execution of the story is too lame and the words used sounds like an amateur, then I would put down the book and never finish it without any second thoughts. This story is different, it is somewhat a bit amateur to me but the story is so damn good that I can’t afford not to finish it.

At the middle of the story, I already got a hint on Athena being sick. So I asked my friend who’s done reading the story about it. And I wish I never did, for I find out that both Athena and Kenjie will die. OMG! Total bummer. I almost lost the interest on finishing the story. I keep on saying to my friend that this is a f*ckin’ tragic story and I don’t like it, but the truth is, I feel the other way around. Just like the story “The Fault In Our Stars by John Green” it is also a great read. It may have a tragic ending, but it sure is a good story that is worth your time.

I can’t count how many times I cried and how many nights I can’t fall asleep for I keep thinking about the story. There was also a time that I can’t concentrate on my work for I am very pissed with the story. I almost cried at work because of that. Well, that’s how the story will make you.

I’ve got no complaints with its characters for all of them portrayed their role very effectively in the story. There were maybe a time that I want to slap and kick Kenjie’s balls, but I realize that that’s what happens in real life. So very normal, I can relate on the characters pretty well.

So why 4 stars? Well, I can’t give it 5 stars for I don’t like its ending. I want happy ending, so I minus 1, making it 4 stars!

Reaction (author & plot)
The story’s plot is really exceptional. Others may not like it, but surprisingly, I did. I even denied it many times, but now, I’m telling you, I really did like it. The creation of scenes and lines we’re very relatable and effective.

I can’t complain much about the author but only share my gratitude and my salute for this story.

Final Thoughts
I am not a believer in love, but this story will give you an idea what true love is and what a person can do because of it. Tragic, yeah! But it is worth every tear you will shed.

P.S. read the story first before watching the movie for I believe that you’ll understand the story more with it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
