She was a good-looking blonde and fighting mad when she came to Perry Mason’s office. She wanted mason to take action against her employer’s stepson, a particularly obnoxious young man who had knocked her down when she resisted his advances.

Perry was sympathetic. he took action at once – and got $1,500.00 for Diana and a $500.00 fee for himself. Case dismissed.

But the very next night, the girl who shared Diana’s apartment was found murdered. At the scene of the crime, the police found two vital clues: the murder weapon, a pistol covered with Diana’s fingerprints, and her bag containing a receipt for his services, signed “Perry Mason per Della Street”.

Now Perry mason really had a case!

Review

This is another classic thriller! Whenever I look at my late uncle’s book shelf, I can’t help but be delighted because it saved me from some boring holidays. I am a sucker for classics and this one’s just perfect.

It all started when Diana Regis, a honey-haired divorcee with an ugly shiner, told Perry Mason, a lawyer, about her troubles. He noticed she had plenty on her mind and nothing under her fur coat but a sheer nightgown. He was about to shrug her off a dame with a dizzy domestic past. But…Diana’s story led to a grand payoff, a blackmailer’s diary, and a good looking corpse with a bullet hole in its head.

I really liked the story. I liked how in the beginning of the book, it provided some sort of a table of contents that listed all its characters with their brief introduction and placed the page where they would first show up. It’s not confusing, for all its characters are easy to keep track of.

The story talks about Mason’s journey towards solving the crime and getting the culprits. It contains a great deal of suspense that for sure, a mystery lover like me would enjoy.

I couldn’t say how much I truly enjoyed the story and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
